GLIPIZ is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for the control of hyperglycemia and its associated symptomatology in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

  • Recommended dose is 5mg given before breakfast.
  • Maximum recommended once daily dose is 15mg and the maximum recommended total dose is 40mg.
  • Some patients may be effectively controlled on a once-a-day regimen, while others show better response with divided dosing. Total daily doses above 15 mg should ordinarily be divided. Total daily doses above 30 mg have been safely given on a bid basis to long-term patients. In elderly patients, debilitated or malnourished patients, and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function, the initial and maintenance dosing should be conservative to avoid hypoglycemic reactions.

Patients receiving insulin agents: As with other sulphonylurea class hypoglycemic, many stable non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients receiving insulin may be safely placed on GLIPIZ.

Patients receiving other oral hypoglycaemic agents: As with other sulphonylurea class hypoglycemics, no transition period is necessary when transferring patients to GLIPIZ. Patients should be observed carefully (1-2 weeks) for hypoglycemia when being transferred from longer half-life sulphonylureas (e.g. chlorpropamide) to GLIPIZ due to potential overlapping of drug effect.

GLIPIZ is contraindicated in patients with,

  • Hypersensitivity to glipizide, sulfonylurea derivatives or sulfonamides.
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma
  • Severe renal or hepatic insufficiency
  • Severe thyroid dysfunction
  • Pregnancy
  • Macrovascular Outcomes
  • Renal and Hepatic Disease

  • Gastrointestinal disturbances
  • Dermatologic reactions
  • Hematologic reactions
  • Metabolic reactions
  • Endocrine reactions
