- Vulvovaginal candidiasis
- Oral candidiasis
- Pityriasis versicolor
- Systemic candidiasis
- Histoplasmosis
- Aspergillosis
- Onychomycoses caused by dermatophytes and/or yeasts.
- Dermatophytosis caused by organisms susceptible to itraconazole (Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., Epidermophyton floccosum) e.g. tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea manuum.
- Cryptococcal infections (including cryptococcal meningitis). In immunosuppressed patients suffering from cryptococcosis and in patients with cryptococcosis of the CNS Itraconazole is indicated only if the usually recommended initial therapy seems to be inappropriate or ineffective.
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis: 200 mg twice daily for 1 day
- Pityriasis versicolor: 200 mg once daily for 7 days
- Tinea corporis, tinea cruris: 100 mg once daily for 15 days
- Tinea pedis, tinea manuum: 100 mg once daily for 30 days
- Oral candidiasis: 100 mg once daily for 14 days
- Onychomycosis: 200 mg once daily for 3 months
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Co-administration of the following substances is contraindicated with Itraconazole;
- Substrates metabolized via cytochrome P450 3A4, that can prolong the QT interval, such as astemizole, bepridil, cisapride, dofetilide, levacetylmethadole (levomethadyl), mizolastine, pimozide, quinidine, sertindole and terfenadine is contraindicated with itraconazole.
- HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors metabolized via cytochrome P450 3A4 such as atorvastatin, lovastatin and simvastatin.
- Triazolam and oral Midazolam
- Ergot Alkaloids such as Dihydroergotamine, Ergometrine (ergonovine), Ergotamine and Methylergometrine (methylergonovine).
- Eletriptan
- Nisoldipine
- Itraconazole 100mg/200mg Capsules must not be used during pregnancy except for life-threatening cases where the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential harm to the fetus.
The most common side effects of itraconazole are:
- Nausea, Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Rash
- Edema
- Fatigue, Dizziness.
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Increased blood triglycerides.
If any signs of an allergic reaction like hives, severe skin rash, tingling in arms or legs; difficult breathing; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat is experienced, immediate consultation with doctor to be prioritized.
If any signs of congestive heart failure: feeling tired or short of breath, cough with mucus, fast heartbeats, swelling, rapid weight gain, or sleep problems is experienced, immediate consultation with doctor to be prioritized.
