Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity Screening Training for FCHV of Ward 3 and 4 of Chandragiri

Introduction

FCHVs are selected by members of Mothers’ Group for Health (MG-H) with the help of local health facility staff. They are provided 18 days basic training in two phases (9+9 days) on selected primary health care components. After completion of basic training, FCHVs are provided with a certificate and medicine kit box consisting of necessary drugs and supplies free of cost. They are also provided with manuals, flip chart, ward register, IEC materials, FCHV bag, signboard and identity card. Family Planning devices (pills and condoms only to FCHVs) Iron tablets, Vitamin A, and ORS are supplied regularly through local health facility.

Why FCHV

FCHV has contributed a lot in uplifting the health status of Nepal, achieving the indicators of health. Without regular salary they have shown their upmost dedication towards their work. FCHV are focal health person of community, they provide information to community people regarding various health issue knowledge, program, information etc. If FCHV are educated about the non-communicable disease as well they can spread the awareness in their community. Non-communicable disease cannot be cured but with proper diet, exercise and life style modification these can be prevented and controlled to some extent.

If FCHV are able to screen blood pressure and high blood sugar of community people can prevent many chronic outcome of high blood pressure such as: brain hemorrhage, heart attack , kidney damage etc. regular screening of blood pressure and high blood sugar can also help people to prevent or control NCD’s such as blood pressure, Teaching FCHV proper screening technique of blood pressure, blood sugar screening technique will be great initiative of Nagarpalika toward a step ahead toward controlling NCDs in the community.

Result

FCHV were able to differentiate between high and normal diabetes and blood pressure they were also able to manually check diabetes and blood pressure of person after 2 days of training program.
