Why are conducting a program in Parsuwa?
Parsuwa is a small village in Jitpur behind the NPL factory. Despite being very near to the city area, Parsuwa village is an economically backward community. People do not have reach to proper health facilities so we want to help this community people. NPL Social Welfare organization was registered in Parsa so; it is our responsibility to help our community people. So we wanted to conduct a school health program for children who are economically backward and does not have reach to proper health facilities.

Our program:

Children are the future of the world and as they are tender in their thoughts, knowledge and health. It is the desire of every parent to guarantee a healthier environment and a better life for their child. However, when it comes to a child’s health, many factors come into play and can sometimes be a complex task.

Eye screening:

A vision screening is a more efficient eye exam. A child is “screened” for eye problems and referred to an ophthalmologist for a comprehensive exam if needed. Some Students cannot see what’s written in the board due to eye problem and efficiency in their study also decreases. Most of problems is hidden due to lack of screening. So we conducted this awareness and screening program so that we could improve the quality of life.

• Have they had teeth pulled?
• Do molar teeth have sealants to help prevent cavities?
• Does the child need to be referred for a full exam?

Deworming:

As the World Health Organization (WHO) states, ‘Soil-borne helminth infections are one among the most common infections in humans, caused by a group of parasites referred to as worms, including roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. These intestinal worms can seriously affect the nutrition and growth of the child. A child may undergo deworming regularly to remove the intestinal worms. Such worms need to be killed, otherwise, they can multiply and lay eggs in the intestine causing major damage to the body. Some of those intestinal parasites may even be fatal and should therefore not be overlooked. Worms also make the child more vulnerable to diseases such as intestinal obstruction and reduce the ability to sufficiently absorb vitamins. Parasitic worms also sometimes allow the child to become malnourished and/or stunted even without obvious symptoms.

Dental screening:

Dental screening helps families to know if their child has a dental problem and helps them to access care. Screening is available to all children and teens age 17 or younger. A dental screening is a visual look at teeth and gums and is done by a Registered Dental Hygienist. Our screeners collect information that answers these questions:
• Is the child doing a good job brushing?
• Does the child have fillings or crowns?

Results:

From our screening, we can conclude that almost 50% of the surveyed population had either dental or eye problems. Sanitary practices of the children we also not very good. Children used to come to school barefoot. They were not properly groomed.
