Introduction

Chandragiri municipality is gateway of Kathmandu valley. Chandragiri municipality is situated in the southwest part of Kathmandu valley in Bagmati Province. The total area of the municipality is 43.92 Sq.Km. Chandragiri municipality was declared on 2 December 2014 merging eleven VDCs. Chandragiri municipality has been divided into 15 wards for efficient administration. Most of people migrating to Kathmandu reside in Chandragiri. Renters in Chandragiri work in near by places of Kathmandu, so they don’t have proper balanced diet, healthy lifestyle etc., that’s why we wanted to aware and see prevalence of diabetes, hypertension in ward 3 and 4 of Chandragiri.

Methods

Household data was collected from every house hold. A cross-sectional observational study using a modified standard questionnaire was conducted among 3376 population of age 18-75 at Chandragiri ward -3 and 4 of Kathmandu Nepal. Data was objectively analyzed in SPSS full Version 21. Chi-square test.

Results

Mean SD age of the responded was 43.7± 17.4. Overall majority of respondent were female with 60%, out of total population 37% of population were suffering from hypertension whereas 14% were suffering from diabetes. 16% of them were obese whereas 39% of them were overweight. Majority of population (93%) were Hindus. Majority of survey population were of Newari ethnicity with 58%. Most of the people that responded were of age 40. But majority of people suffering from hypertension and diabetes were people of age (30-69). Prevalence of diabetes and hypertension is seen higher in Dalits than people of other caste.
